Homogenizers. Types and uses. Did you know that...? To solve problems associated with dissolution, grinding, mixing, and obtaining finely dispersed systems and various emulsions are actively used homogenizers. As a rule, the following types of homogenizers are common in laboratories: rotor-stator, paddle and ultrasonic homogenizers. Rotor-stator homogenizers break down particles by mechanical tearing or shearing action of rotating parts and are ideal for mixing and emulsifying liquids. They are used to produce pharmaceuticals for injection or oral use, ointments, creams, lotions, resins, pigments, lubricants, and effectively break down plant and animal tissues. With the Wiggens D-500 Pro homogenizer-dispersant, it is possible to easily handle all of the above tasks using a large set of interchangeable dispersing elements. Vane homogenizers find their active application in microbiological analyses of food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical products as well as in clinical laboratories. Homogenizers of this type are used for mechanical disruption of dry, hard, viscous, fibrous samples and careful extraction of microbial cells from inside and from the surface of samples. The Wiggens HG400VW and HG400 Pro homogenizers can even handle samples such as meat, fish, vegetables, fruit and animal tissue. Sterile bags of various sizes and designs are used to prevent cross-contamination during operation. Ultrasonic homogenizers are used to produce thin emulsions or dispersed systems with nanoparticles (less than 100 nm). They are also used for extraction of proteins, organelles, nucleic acids, cell lysis and removal of proteins from hard-to-lyze cells, including plant, yeast and bacterial cells, creation of lotions, creams, and other personal care products.
